I’m a poet and didn’t even know it! I have been writing poetry for years, and consider it an art form kind of like the music I play or art I draw: something I enjoy and use for meditation. I don’t really get out to read much poetry unless invited, I am just too busy and my poetry is very personal. I was nominated for TPL a couple of years ago, probably because I read poetry at an art gallery with Coral Bernal. I feel fortunate to have shared the space and the event with Coral before she passed, she will never be forgotten… She was a beautiful person and an accomplished poet. I loved how she incorporated singing into her poetry… My reign as TPL is dedicated to her memory…
This time around I think I got nominated for TPL for participating in the Taos Storytelling Festival in 2023, something I hadn’t done before but found to be fun! I was happy to be chosen as the 4th TPL as it gives me an excuse to go into the classroom and hopefully get students enthusiastic about their voice. Read the article below for more information on my proposed project and one of my poems I submit for consideration.
I am planning a youth event for April 26 (tentative), and am soliciting donations to buy the youth gift cards and other prizes to incentivize them to write and perform. If you would like to make a donation, please click here. Note that your donation will go toward the purchase of youth prizes, mostly gift cards and gift certificates, and donations here are NOT tax deductible.
If you would like to make a donation to a non-profit that is probably tax deductible, please send a check to SOMOS with “TPL” in the memo to the address below. They can also be contacted for more information at: (575) 758-0081 or somos@somostaos.org
