Recording from February 12, 2025 – Seeds and Crops. Learn about the fundamentals of seeds, seed saving, and crop diversity; especially with regard to the desert Southwest. Methods of seed selection, seed processing (wet, dry, and root cellar), and crop adaptation in the context of climate change will be covered.
March 5, 2025 – Soils and Soil Building. Learn about the fundamentals of sustainable and regenerative soil management. Topics include soil building on the landscape, the building and managing of compost, raising worms (vermicompost), making and using biochar, and utilizing compost teas and ferments.
March 19, 2025 – Acequias 101. Learn about the history, culture, and ecology of acequia irrigation structures and communities in northern New Mexico and southern Colorado. We will also discuss food traditions, agricultural methods, crop types, and challenges to the survival of acequia culture.
