Today we get the water from the Acequia Madre. It is a long stretch to get the water from the ditch to the field, but well worth the trip. It is important to note that it rained yesterday evening, our weather station logged 0.5 inches, so our irrigation is to push the moisture to the deeper root zone. The idea is to use the water while it’s available as it might not be there later!
Working this plot for the first time, we notice the soil is “thick” and “heavy” with a high clay content. The weeds aren’t emerging vigorously, which is also interesting. Hopefully this plot will work out to nurture our maiz concho, frijol Anasazi, and a calabasa mexicana from the highlands over the mountains…
