Here we are preparing some land to plant garlic on Mr. and Mrs. Mondragon’s land that AIRE leased for this purpose. Here you see Chrysalis Senior David Branchal wrestling 8 horses to get the job done. In the process, the students learned about tillers and horsepower, small engine maintenance, and of course soils, crop spacing, and topographic orientation for irrigating. We look forward to seeing how much we will be able to irrigate, hoping to demonstrate some crop resilience if the water is not there… When it is all said and done, we intend to have several rows of garlic, alberjon (peas), beans, and maiz concho (white corn for chicos and posole) growing in this field by June of 2013…
