This is our second annual acequia cleaning where we bring together students from Chrysalis Alternative School and students on a spring break adventure from the University of California, Santa Cruz. We cleaned a lateral of the Acequia Madre del Sur del Río de Don Fernando de Taos known as ‘La Finca.’ Afterwards the UCSC crew worked further to help with many ditch cleaning and cover cropping needs at Sol Feliz farm, clearing many lateral ditches of weeds and tilling (by hand) and planting over half of the South field in a cover crop of habas and alberjon, or fava beans and peas.
