Today was a day to go through the field and get all the crops that remain (see our next post). In the processed we remove all the corn stocks and put them in a big pile to clear the field. We still have to remove all the hoses, drip lines, and the rest of the crop residue to make the field look nice and make way for a fall or early spring cover crop. We will compost the remaining corn stalks, sterilize and inoculate with edible mushroom mycelium, and/or make bio char from all the remaining carbon. This effort was for the milpa portion of our the field, we still have some work to do on the greenhouse, raised beds, and with the grain harvest.
