Ready to plant at Parr Field

20140518-183924.jpgAfter today we are ready to plant the main part of the school garden, our milpa.  You can see the rows look real nice.  We use a hiller/furrower attachment on the back of the tiller to make our rows straight and in an efficient manner.20140518-185840.jpgHere is a photo of what the soil looks like after we spread the piles of compost around.  I would say we put a pile (wheelbarrow full) of compost about every 8 or so feet and spread it around.

20140518-185906.jpgIt is hard to tell just from a glance that we put all that compost after we till it in, but over the years the increase in organic matter will mean an increase in soil moisture, a decrease in the need to water so much, and of course there is the soil fertility aspect.
