Today we gathered at Parr Field to do some transplanting of some lettuce (above). We hope this lettuce will be ready for harvest after the students come back to school and hopefully as part of our chicos making workshop coming up sometime in September. Many of our fruits and vegetables are coming into their being with green tomatoes, small cucumbers, and small chiles forming.
Another activity was to hoe some weeds between the corn plants and to mound some soil around each plant. This was a bit more challenging than I am used to, as we have to work around the drip lines. Usually in our acequia-irrigated systems, we just have to hoe weeds and move soil without regard for a drip line. When it was all said and done, we damaged a couple of drip lines that will have to be repaired or replaced…
